I'm a software developer that enjoys learning new technology. Over the years I've used diferent projects to continue to learn new software engineering projects, from building websites and mobile apps, to creating IoT sensors and simple machines with a Raspberry Pi.
Back in 2016, I began experimenting with building custom Alexa skills. As with any hobby, the subject matter I focused on was areas that I had personal interests in, and one area I've always enjoyed is music. Voice technologies have difficulty facing mobile and desktop platforms that already have a rich library of content. One area that voice has a distinct advantage on is activities that require use of your hands, for example, playing an instrument.
I began to explore how voice technology could be used as a teaching platform and after a few months of experimenting, the first version of Piano Teacher was created. Here's a video of my daughter testing it out for me.
After publishing it into the public skill store, and sharing it on social media, it soon gained a following. I got feedback from users around the world that tried it out attempting to learn how to play the piano.
