What data do we store?

We do not request or record any personal data when using the Piano Teacher Skill.
There are no mailing or contact lists associated with this skill.

To improve user experience, we do save technical information about the session so that we can track your progress, and provide advice on what to do next.

Are you able to hear what I say to Alexa?

While the Alexa device does have a microphone in it, this is used to detect when you command it by saying the 'wake word' like Alexa.

Once you begin interacting with a skill like Piano Teacher, the Alexa enabled device does the translation of speech to text, as well as the translation to what you are intending for it to do. This means that the actual recordings of your voice as well as the transcription are not provided to the actual skill, rather just the intent.

This means that custom skills like Piano Teacher don't get any access to the voice recordings of what gets said to the Alexa device, nor the transcripts of exactly what is being said. This guards your privacy from third party developers.
